Rain and Clouds in the Noble Qur'an

Posted by Hashim Abd Ghani On 12:31 AM
Yearly heavy rainfall season that resulted with flood disaster started between early October to late December /early January in Terengganu and others east coast states of Malaysia. Recently, Thailand is struggling with its worst flooding in 50 years, which has affected a third of its provinces. This natural phenomena cause flood disaster to certain nations at certain period, but rainfall is important for the planet earth.

Currently, Terengganu was hit by flood in certain areas, whereby the peoples were evacuated to flood relief centre, but at the same time the Monsoon Cup, the prestigious final event of the 2011 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Match Racing Tour which enhanced the state tourist industry is on-going.

The Noble Qur'an narrates statements of scientific fact concerning clouds and rain. The eleventh verse of Surat Az-Zukhruf, rain is defined as water sent down in due measure. The verse is as follows:

"And He who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure, then We revive a dead land therewith, even so will you be brought forth (from the graves)." (Az-Zukhruf  43 : 11)

[ This "measure" mentioned in the verse has to do with a couple of characteristics of rain. First of all, the amount of rain that falls on the earth is always the same. It is estimated that in one second, 16 million tons of water evaporates from the earth. This number is equal to the amount of water that drops on the earth in one second. This means that water continuously circulates in a balanced cycle according to a "measure" ]. (Quotation by Harun Yahya : About the Rain in the Qur'an).

Modern science has affirmed the scientific points mentioned in this verses of the Quran. How rain was formed remained a great mystery for quite some time. Only after the weather radar was invented was it possible to discover the stages by which rain is formed. According to this discovery, the formation of rain takes place in three stages. First, the "raw material" of rain rises up into the air with the wind. Later, clouds are formed, and finally raindrops appear. Three stages are clearly defined in the Qur'an :

And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a heavy-laden clouds, We drive them to a land that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to descend thereon. Then We produce every kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall raise up the dead, so that you may remember or take heed. (Al-A’râf 7 : 57)

And We send the winds fertilizing (to fill heavily the clouds with water), then cause the water (rain) to descend from the sky, and We give it to you to drink, and it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. (Al-Hijr 15 : 22)

See you not that Allâh drives the clouds gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap of layers, and you see the rain comes forth from between them; and He sends down from the sky hail (like) mountains, (or there are in the heaven mountains of hail from where He sends down hail), and strikes therewith whom He wills, and averts it from whom He wills. The vivid flash of its (clouds) lightening nearly blinds the sight. (An-Nūr 24 : 43)

It is Allâh Who sends the winds, so that they raise clouds, and spread themalong the sky as He wills, and then break them into fragments until you see the rain drops come forth from the midst!  Then when He has made then  fall on whom of His servants He wills, they rejoice.

It is evident that Allâh has provided us information that could not have been known 1,400 years ago. The mankind must remember, consider the creation and prostrate to Allâh, the rain are the essential to the living of mankind.

Those who remember Allâh (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying) : Our Lord! You have not created (al) without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvationfrom the torment of the Fire. (Al-‘Imrân 3 : 191)
