Disaster & Devastation

Posted by Hashim Abd Ghani On 12:39 PM

Disaster and devastation happened since the existence of mankind due to the sins committed against   Allah, the Lord of the Universe. The bigger the sins against religious laws, the bigger will be the irritation of the Lord that befallen upon the mankind. Allah’s  irritation can be realized through disaster and devastation like  earthquakes, tsunami, floods, fire, & etc. Historically, there are proofs and evidences as it happened to the peoples of Prophet Lut   عليه السلام  (the stone rain), Qarun, Pharoahs, Tsamud . As a Muslim it is our belief as it is stated in the verses of the Noble Quran :

Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allâh sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayât (proofs, evidences signs, etc) for people of understanding. (Al Baqarah 2:164)

The disaster and devastation is befallen so that the mankind will repent and beg for His Forgiveness, Allah the Pardoner and the Most Merciful :

Evil (sins and disobedience to Allâh) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds), that He (Allâh) may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allâh, and begging His Pardon). (Ar Rûm 30:41)

So We punished each (of them) for his sins; of them were some on whom We sent Hâsib (a violent wind with shower of stones)(as the people of Lût ), and of them were some overtaken by As-Saihah (torment-awful cry) (as Thamûd or Shu’aib people), and of them were some whom We caused the earth to swallow (as Qârûn) and of them were some whom We drowned (as the people of Nuh or Fir’aun (Pharoah) and his people). It was not Allâh Who wronged them, but they wronged themselves. (Al ‘Ankabut 29:40)

As a Muslim and believer in Islam, we must believe in what the Noble Qur’an narrates, it is the sayings of Allah, the Avenger and the Utterly Just and also the Pardoner. So we must and need to repent!
